Are you him or her that can hit the ball in warmups? But when it comes to the time for the game, you struggle with hitting at the plate. Your swing is lazy, or you are the opposite of that and always seem to fly out. You have bad and good hits during a game. Don't worry, you can fix it all. You just need to work on the fundamentals of your swing. You should be able to swing the bat and hit the ball anywhere on the field.
Ok, what if your fundamentals are good be not great. There is still thing you can do to improve. Softball / baseball is a game of slang terms that can be hard to remember and understand. It just might feel uncomfortable to you at the plate. Then you hear it from your coach just relaxe in there. You forget or ignore your train in fundamentals. Then you struggle to get a hit.
There are tips you can practice hitting the ball more often. I know you think you heard it all push your hands through, twist your hips, get out in front of the ball. You are late on your swing, and you need to pull your hands in on an inside pitch; you need to extend your arms on an outside pitch, you need to get under the ball, you need to shorten your swing to be quicker. But what if the pitch does not allow you to do that? Because you are not quick enough with your fundamentals. You can practice putting two bats in the outfield between center field and left, then two bats between right field and center field. Widen the gap to your preferred comfort zone as you master this step. Make it a narrower path as you progress. This is called hitting it on a line.
Now as you practice, you're swing hitting the ball in these gaps. The reason you need to practice this process is because there is never a player standing in that position. You need to practice this process for the reason being. Because the opposing team will catch on to where you can and cannot hit the ball on the field. They will shift the outfielders into positions where you fly out. If you cannot hit the ball the opposite way the softball / baseball gods will not shine on you.
What if you cannot hit the ball in the outfield every time? What you do is practice hitting the ball at the bases. The reason being there is never an opposing player standing on the base to catch the ball. The first, second and third basemen are playing off the bag. The pitcher is going through the motions of pitching to react in enough time to catch a screaming ground ball up the middle. You also need to practice this process because if you cannot go the opposite way or hit the gaps on the field. Well, you know the story they will shift the infielders, and you are another out in the game.
You must be able to adjust as a hitter at the plate at a moment's notice. If not, the pitcher will be able to notice what pitch's you can and cannot hit at the plate. You have to be mentally tuff before and during your turn to bat. https://qualityatbatsacademy.com/fastpitch-softball-mental-hitting-tips/#:~:text=Get%20into%20the%20Hitting%20Mindset,pick%20out%20the%20right%20pitch. “Veronica” I am a youth softball player and still have a lot to learn. This method has improved my at bats. I am more confident after seeing the results. I can hit the ball farther and get on base more often.
“Dezirae” My skills have improved in a short period of time. I focus more on my fundamentals during my at bats. I can hit the ball more frequently and I hit the ball farther. I practice this method every chance I get to do so.
